Support for Openswan is available by IRC. A number of the developers, and experienced folks hang around in #openswan on FreeNode.

Try irc.freenode.net to get onto a random server. If you need a client, or help using IRC, see www.irchelp.org for more information on IRC, Ettiquite and getting/configuring IRC clients.

Things to remember when requesting help:
  • Read the docs first. Don't expect much help if you just pop in and as "How do I configure Openswan?", since you'll get pointers to the docs, and told nicely to RTFM
  • Generate a barf (ipsec barf > savedbarffile.txt) and be prepared to post it online somewhere (better yet, post it on a webpage *first*)
  • WAIT We can't stress this enough. Most people idle in the channel, but check frequently for new messages. It might be 5-10 mins before someone replies. If you think this is too slow, remember that these folks are not paid support people - they usually have a full time job that takes priority over IRC and giving away free support. If you can't wait around, then use the mailing lists instead.
